What Would Your Answer Be?

Hectic times! As I talk to friends, everyone is doing so much.  Sometimes I feel like the little gerbil running in his wheel - going fast and getting no where.

Hubby and I will leave today and head to Helena, MT for the 7th Annual Indian Education For All Best Practices Conference sponsored by the Montana Office of Public Instruction.  Last year was the first time I attended.  It was marvelous.

I have been working on a website as part of my presentation.  It has been challenging to put the information into a logical and easy to use format.  I feel nervous.

This morning the dogs got me up and I decided to do some surfing before I started packing.  I found a great blog "The Show Me Librarian"   I love her post "Reading Then and Now" http://showmelibrarian.blogspot.com/2013/02/reading-then-now.html   She took several sentences and answered them from her 10 year old self and also from her adult self.

As I read I thought about not only her answers but the questions themselves.

  • Sentence #1: I think everyone in the world should read...
  • Sentence #2: If I could listen to anyone in the world read aloud to me it would be...
  • Sentence #3: When I read aloud, my favorite character to impersonate is...
  • Sentence #4: The genre that takes up the most room on my bookshelf is...
  • Sentence #5: The last book I wish I'd written or inspired me to write my own story is...
My answers:

Sentence #1:  365 Thank Yous:  The Year a Simple Act of Daily Gratitude Changed my life by John Kralik

Sentence #2:  James Earl Jones - I once heard a commentator make the comment that he could sit and listen to James Earl Jones read the New York phone book.  I agreed.

Sentence #3:  Alexander from " Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad  Day" by Judith Viorst

Sentence #4:  I guess that would depend on which room and which shelf or box.  I like fantasy, mystery, education, inspiration and history and ....

Sentence #5:  The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown

What are your answers?

    1. The Bible. Besides the message, the picture language (show, don't tell) is beyond amazing.
    2. Sean Connery. I melt when I hear his voice.
    3. Historical Fiction.
    4. So many: The Story of Edgar Sawtelle....I loved this book so much, I wrote a letter to the authour. He never answered me though. A Prayer for Owen Meany made me laugh so hard, I fell out of bed! even though it is a rather dark story.
Nice post and fun to participate.

  2. Hi Ruth-Have a wonderful time at the conference! I've seen a few others answer these questions lately; they are roaming around I guess. Here are mine, 'off the cuff': Travels With Charley by John Steinbeck, Sean Connery, Any of the Pooh characters, I can't answer, like you, I love many kinds of genres, Twelve Kinds of Ice. Thanks for asking! Maybe you can compile all the answers you receive for the Tuesday slice?

  3. Hello Ruth...good to meet you. These are making me think early on a Sunday morning!
    1. I'm on my 2nd trip through the Bible...this time following Youversion's Chronological arrangement. Very eye opening!
    2. My high school English teacher, Mrs. Davis. She looked like Yoda, her tiny self tucked inside her huge cowl neck sweater, but had the ability to put 17 & 18 yr old boys on the edges of their seats reading Washington Irving to us. I think about her almost every time I read aloud.
    3. Molly Vera Thompson from The Kid in the Red Jacket. She has the same voice as Edith Ann from Laugh In. (And that's the truth! Pbbb!)
    4. Historical fiction and realistic fiction with a good chunk of poetry thrown in for good measure.
    5. The book I wish I had written is usually the one I just finished reading. I hesitate to tell my story sometimes, thinking no one wants to hear it.
