Tell Him the Story about the Cleaning Lady, Slice 16 of 31

My husband told me a funny story when I got home last night.  My sister-in-law and her husband moved to town last year.  They bought a place in one of the new developments here in town, one of those with cookie cutter houses.  When they moved in they were the last row.  Now there are more houses behind them.  All painted similar colors.

The last two times Dan drove to their home he missed their turn off.  Yesterday he turned in the wrong row and the neighbors were out in their yard.  Dan told them all those driveways look the same.  The lady nudged Ted and said tell him about the "Cleaning Lady."

Ted has a cleaning lady come.  He says she's real good and always on time.  She always calls if she was going to be late.

Well this one day.  She didn't come, she didn't call and he waited and waited.  Finally he called her.

"Where are you?"

"I'm cleaning your house."

"I don't think so."

"Yes I am.  I just put the dishes way."

"No.  I'm at my house and you aren't here."

Sure enough she was at someone else's home.

That lady came home to discover someone had been in her house.  She asked my sister-in-law if she had seen anyone. She hadn't.

Later after he figured out whose house it was he told her the story of the "Cleaning Lady."

  1. Oh, that's so funny! Guess they leave doors unlocked there too! But who wouldn't if you could by accident have a cleaning lady come to your house! We once had the oil delivery truck deliver our oil to the wrong house...one new oil delivery guy, two log homes on our road...

  3. I would love to have someone clean my house by accident. Goodness knows we have a hard time getting it done on purpose ;)

  4. Ha! We had a similar story with the snow plower! I can totally see it happening in some of the developments where all the houses look alike and I'm with Shelley--wish someone would come and clean mine by accident.

  5. I've heard several stories through the years like this, but never that they stayed, Ruth. How funny! I would think the cleaning lady would have noticed different furniture?

  7. Fun story! Makes me think this neighborhood needs to read The Big Orange Splot by Daniel Pinkwater. Might be time to create some distinction btw homes!

  8. That reminds me of the song: Little Boxes
There's a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

Except they don't have verse about an accidental cleaning--that part sounds dreamy.

  12. How funny! My mom sat down in the front seat of the wrong car with a total stranger once, but she's not cleaned the wrong house yet.
